Search commences for man missing off Surfers Paradise

A search is underway for a man who went swimming at Surfers Paradise and did not return.

Just after 10pm yesterday, a 25-year-old woman and 26-year-old man went swimming in the beach off the Esplanade.

Members of the public observed the couple struggling in the water and were able to assist the woman to the beach. The man was unable to make it to shore and has not been seen since.

A land, sea and air search has commenced to locate the man who entered the water near Tower 34 wearing only black shorts.

The search for the man will continue at first light this morning.
