- Experienced criminal lawyer Lindsay Fox SC to preside as a Judge of the WA District Court
- Mr Fox has been an integral part of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for more than 20 years serving as a prosecutor for a string of complex criminal matters
Lindsay Fox SC has been appointed as a Judge of the District Court of Western Australia.
Mr Fox starts in his new role on 3 November 2025 and fills the vacancy left by the appointment of former District Court Judge Troy Denise Sweeney SC to the WA Supreme Court.
Since being admitted to practice in 2003, Mr Fox has worked at the State's Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) as a prosecutor.
He conducted numerous jury trials in the District and Supreme courts in the nine years prior to his appointment as a Senior State Prosecutor in 2012 with the ODPP's appeals team.
While in his role as a Senior State Prosecutor, Mr Fox regularly appeared as sole or lead counsel in complex criminal appeals before the Court of Appeal and in appellate proceedings in the Supreme Court.
He was appointed a Senior Counsel in November 2020 and then became a Senior Consultant State Prosecutor in 2021, heading up the ODPP's appellate practice.
In the past four years as a Senior Consultant State Prosecutor, Mr Fox led the appellate practice in the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal and the High Court of Australia.
He also acted as counsel for the State before the Court of Appeal and other appellate courts in serious criminal cases, while managing prosecutors in the appeals team.
Mr Fox has argued more than 150 appeals before the Court of Appeal including that of convicted armed robber and prison escapee Brenden Abbott's failed appeal against his sentence.
As stated by Attorney General Dr Tony Buti:
"I congratulate Lindsay Fox on his appointment as a Judge of the WA District Court.
