Second man charged over armed robbery near Wollongong

A second man has been charged following an alleged armed robbery in Balgownie earlier this year.

About 11pm on Monday 17 August 2020, a man – armed with a firearm – entered licensed premises on Balgownie Road, Balgownie, and allegedly threatened two employees.

The man demanded cash before leaving the scene on a motorcycle and riding north on Church Street.

No one was physically injured during the incident.

Officers from Wollongong Police District attended and commenced an investigation.

As part of ongoing investigations, a 32-year-old man was charged earlier this month. He remains before the courts.

Following further inquiries, a 30-year-old man was arrested at Wollongong Police Station about 3pm yesterday (Sunday 20 December 2020).

The man was charged with robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon.

Police will allege in court that the man was assisted by the older man during the armed robbery.

He was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Monday 21 December 2020).

Inquiries are continuing.
