Secretary General signs book of condolences for Türkiye

Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić has signed in the Palais de l'Europe the book of condolences following the earthquake in Türkiye.

Marija Pejčinović Burić, shocked by this tragedy, has underlined how her thoughts are with the victims and their families. Following a decision by the Secretary General, the European flag has been lowered to half-mast.

Secretary General original text:

On behalf of the whole Secretariat of the Council of Europe, I offer my deepest condolences and sympathy to the Government and the people of Türkiye, and especially to the bereaved families of the victims following the large-scale earthquake of 6 February 2023. I also express my sincere respect for all the rescue workers and other men and women who have made tireless efforts under severe conditions in the disaster-stricken areas. We share your grief, and wish to convey our solidarity and compassion in these difficult circumstances.
