Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III spoke with Ukrainian Minister of Defence Oleksii Reznikov to discuss the situation on the battlefield and Ukraine's capability needs. Secretary Austin provided an update on his May 13th phone call with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu in which he urged an immediate end to the conflict in Ukraine and emphasized the importance of maintaining lines of communication. Secretary Austin reiterated the unwavering U.S. support for Ukraine's sovereignty and security assistance efforts to bolster Ukraine's capacity to counter Russian aggression.
The leaders pledged to remain in close contact.
