Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III spoke with Ukrainian Minister of Defence Oleksii Reznikov to discuss the situation on the ground in eastern Ukraine and provide an update on U.S. and international security assistance efforts. The leaders exchanged perspectives on the upcoming virtual Ukraine Defense Contact Group, which will build on the momentum from the April 26 Ukraine Defense Consultative Group in Ramstein, Germany – a meeting that included the participation of over 40 Ministers of Defense in an effort to meet Ukraine's capability needs. Secretary Austin underscored the enduring U.S. commitment to fortify Ukraine's capacity to counter Russian aggression.
The leaders pledged to remain in close contact.
