Secretary Pompeo's Meeting with Brazilian Foreign Minister Ernesto Araujo

Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo met yesterday with Brazilian Foreign Minister Ernesto Araujo in the city of Boa Vista, Roraima, Brazil. Secretary Pompeo and Minister Araujo emphasized our shared commitment to a secure, prosperous, and democratic hemisphere and support for the Venezuelan people and their quest for freedom. They agreed that the Democratic Transition Framework provides the way forward to resolve the crisis. Secretary Pompeo acknowledged Brazil's generosity in hosting Venezuelan refugees. The two leaders also discussed the continued importance of a coordinated response to COVID-19 and to economic recovery in the region, and they agreed to build on the strong economic and security partnerships between our countries to advance shared goals such as increased trade and digital security.
