Secretary Pompeo's Meeting with Romanian Foreign Minister Aurescu

Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo met with Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu today in Washington, D.C. Secretary Pompeo and Foreign Minister Aurescu hailed our multi-decade partnership, exemplified most recently by an Intergovernmental Agreement initialed on October 9 for the refurbishment and construction of reactors at the Cernavoda nuclear power plant in Romania. The Secretary and Foreign Minister also discussed further strengthening our defense ties, improving energy security in Europe through Black Sea gas extraction, our joint efforts in creating clean 5G networks, and the growth-generating potential of the Three Seas Initiative. Secretary Pompeo reiterated U.S. concerns about increased propaganda and malign influence from communist China and Russia and their proxies.
