Sections of letter released as investigation into Mernda incident continues

Mernda Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team detectives have today released sections of a letter in the hope the public can identify the unknown author as the investigation into an incident in Mernda back in November continues, Victoria Police say.

Investigators have been told a 9-year-old girl had been riding her bike to school along Skeeter Drive about 8.30am on 14 November when she was confronted by a man.

The man grabbed hold of the handlebars of the girl’s bike before convincing her to walk alongside him.

The girl managed to run away from the man, who then dropped the bike and fled the scene on foot.

The girl did not suffer any injuries. No arrests have been made.

Investigators received the anonymous letter which they believe may have been written by the offender.

Detectives have released the below images of sections of the letter and appeal for the author or anyone who recognises the handwriting to come forward and contact police.

Police continue to appeal for any witnesses and have released further CCTV footage of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

The unknown man was wearing a blue coat or jacket.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
