Senseless in a school zone

Heidelberg police intercepted a teenager allegedly travelling at almost twice the speed limit in a school zone, Victoria Police say.

Police set up a stationary speed laser site on Southern Road this afternoon.

A 19-year-old woman was allegedly detected travelling at 78km/h about 3pm, when the school zone speed limit of 40 applies.

The P1 probationary driver was issued with a penalty notice which included a fine of $595, a six-month loss of licence and six demerit points

This intercept forms part of Operation Arid, a statewide focus on keeping our community safe and reducing harm on the roads this long weekend. The operation will run for four days from Friday through to Monday.

During this time motorists should expect to have their vehicles scanned, be breath tested, drug tested and speed-checked by police

The operation involves all available personnel including; local road policing units, general duties, other operational policing units and centralised resources from Road Policing Command.
