Serious Assault And Stolen Vehicle At Mourilyan

Officers from Innisfail Station, Innisfail Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), Tactical Crime Squad, Dog Squad and Cairns Station are investigating following an incident in Mourilyan this morning, 29 August.

Around 2am, police were called to the Bruce Highway following reports a group of people attended a property in a stolen Kia Sportage armed with weapons.

A neighbour then used his Ford Everest to stop the Sportage from leaving, before the Sportage hit the Everest and drove through two fences then into a ditch.

The Sportage was abandoned and several people entered a Mazda CX9 before fleeing.

Police arrived and located two men.

Whilst being escorted to the Police vehicle, one of the men kicked two police officers in the stomach and chest.

A short time later, police deployed a tyre deflation device on the Bruce Highway at Gordonvale to disrupt the Mazda CX9.

Three women and a man were arrested by the Tactical Crime Squad with the assistance of Police Dog DJ and are currently assisting police with enquiries.

Investigations are ongoing, police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
