Serious collision at Yallourn North

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a serious collision in Yallourn North this afternoon, Victoria Police say.

It is believed a Holden Commodore and a Honda Civic travelling in the opposite direction collided head-on on Brown Coalmine Road, near Quarry Road, about 3.35pm.

A 29-year-old woman and a seven-year-old girl, occupants of the Holden, were airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Two other child occupants of the car, a five-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl, were taken to hospital by road ambulance with what are understood to be serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The occupants of the Honda, a 49-year-old woman and two 15-year-old males, were taken to hospital by road ambulance with what are believed to be serious but non-life threatening.

Major Collision Investigation Unit are on scene and traffic is currently blocked at the scene of the collision in both directions.

The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined and the investigation is ongoing.
