Sewer Network Pipework Relining Program to Commence in January

Bland Shire Council will soon begin a major upgrade to sections of the local sewer network in West Wyalong and Wyalong, with essential relining works scheduled to start on 12 January 2026.

The project forms part of Council's ongoing commitment to maintaining critical wastewater infrastructure, some of which has been in service since the late 1930s. These upgrades will help improve network reliability, reduce maintenance issues and extend the life of the sewer system for decades to come.

Interflow Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract for the 2025/2026 financial year. The program includes the relining of approximately 595 metres of 150mm earthenware sewer pipe and 28 junctions across several locations in West Wyalong and Wyalong.

Works will take place at:

  • End of Brown Street to Park Street, West Wyalong
  • Monash Street between Park Street and the rear lane, then through the rear lane to the end-of-line at Belar Street, West Wyalong
  • Pine Street between Cassin and Neeld Streets, Wyalong

Affected property owners will receive written notification ahead of works beginning.

Interflow will use its innovative 'Expanda Pipe' structural liner system, which allows new pipe lining to be installed from existing manholes. A plastic strip is spirally wound inside the existing pipeline, locking together to form a strong new structural liner. This method significantly reduces the need for excavation, minimising disruption for residents and businesses.

Mayor Brian Monaghan said the project is an important investment in long-term community infrastructure. "Some of these pipes have been serving our community for close to a century, so this upgrade is not only timely but essential," Mayor Monaghan said. "By renewing this section of the network now, we're helping ensure a reliable and efficient sewer system for our residents well into the future. We appreciate the community's patience as this work gets underway."

Bland Shire Council thanks the community for its cooperation as these important works are carried out.
