Sexual assaults at Gold Coast 7 July

Police have charged a 28-year-old man in relation to the alleged sexual assaults of two women in separate incidents on the Gold Coast.

The offences are alleged to have occurred when the man was driving for a ride-share company in one instance, and a taxi company in the other.

On November 6 2022, a woman caught a ride-share vehicle from Marine Parade at Coolangatta to an address at Mermaid Beach.

When the woman was exiting the vehicle it is alleged the male driver sexually assaulted her. She pushed his hand away and left the vehicle.

On June 24 this year, a different woman caught a taxi from a licensed premises at Broadbeach, when around Monaco Street it is alleged the same man sexually assaulted the woman on two occasions before she jumped out of the moving taxi to escape.

The woman was not injured during the incident.

Following investigations which were assisted by the taxi-company and ride-share operator, a 28-year-old Helensvale man has now been charged with three counts of sexual assault.

He is scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on July 19.
