Shane Jones: We Have Our Own NZ Coal

NZ First Party
The power companies known as Gentailers have agreed to underwrite the purchase of coal from Indonesia.
Apparently they hope this will stop our government from regulating their sector.
Sadly this move will not improve power affordability.
We have our own NZ coal. If geopolitical matters worsen, imports could disappear.
This would have disastrous consequences for our society.
It is tragedy we do not have the most affordable energy in the OECD. Renewable energy has not reduced energy costs in NZ.
Fossil fuels will be required to power our economy as a backup for decades.
New Zealand First believes we must be self sufficient and use our own resources - not inferior foreign alternatives.
The Labour/Greens duology has created a 'rats nest' of energy hardship. Jacinda, the political exile, cancelled our oil/gas sector sans alternative.
Megan Woods refused to save the Refinery because they did not believe it was nationally strategic.
Labour's energy legacy is energy poverty.
Manufacturing is threatened, jobs are on the line.
The rules and regulations for our system of electricity are no longer fit for purpose.
We are experiencing an era of de-powering our economy as profits soar for the Gentailers.
Any suggestions that these companies should be sold to solve our energy woes is risible!
