Residents across the Mildura Rural City Council region – including those in our smaller towns and communities - have an opportunity to play a powerful role in making our community more inclusive, connected and welcoming by joining our region's Social Inclusion Action Group.
This community-led initiative is coordinated by Mildura Rural City Council, with support from the Victorian Government.
Expressions of interest to join the group opened this week, paving the way for a diverse mix of residents from all walks of life to become involved.
Councillor for Community Health, Wellbeing Troy Bailey encouraged residents to take advantage of the unique opportunity to build a stronger, more connected community in the Sunraysia region.
"Community inclusion helps reduce loneliness, improves mental health and wellbeing, and strengthens our social connections," Cr Bailey said.
"Importantly, it will also help us create a community where everyone feels they belong."
Expressions of interest are open to fill up to 15 places, and no formal experience or qualifications are required. What matters most is a willingness to contribute ideas, listen to others and help shape the program.
"We want to hear from people whose voices may not always be heard—those who can share lived experiences and help us build a stronger, more inclusive region. Cr Bailey said.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents are encouraged to become involved.
Expressions of interest close on Sunday 9 November.
Those who submit expressions of interest will be invited to community workshops in Mildura and Ouyen on Friday 21 November and Saturday 22 November. Each session will run for three hours, with lunch provided. If you live outside these towns and would like to participate, please let us know - support options may be available.
