Shape Of Connection Debuts At Griffith Art Gallery

Griffith Regional Art Gallery invites the community to experience The Shape of Connection, a new exhibition by local artist Sharon De Valentin on display from 22 August to 27 September 2026, with an official opening event on Friday 28 August at 6pm. Through encaustic, a medium created by fusing molten beeswax with heat, Sharon explores experience, place and emotion through a collection of paintings and sculpture.

Inspired by recent overseas travels, Sharon's colourful figurative-abstract paintings transform impressions of pattern, architecture and atmosphere into layered fields of memory. Complementing these works are sculptural pieces in white encaustic medium that explore the fluid and organic nature of wax.

Together, the works offer moments of movement and stillness, revealing how fire, wax and gesture can create connections between the landscapes we encounter and the personal experiences we carry with us.

Visitors attending the opening event will have the opportunity to explore the exhibition and enjoy light refreshments.
