Tasmania's first Centre of Excellence for Shearing and Wool Handling is officially open, providing state-of-the-art facilities all in one spot.
The Centre has been established at the Campbell Town Showgrounds, with shearing sheds and associated amenities now ready for use.
Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Gavin Pearce, said the Tasmanian Government has delivered on our 2024 election commitment to establish the State's first shearing and wool handling innovation centre.
"Tasmania now has a one-stop shop to showcase our world-class sheep and wool sector," Minister Pearce said.
"The Centre of Excellence for Shearing and Wool Handling will be the epicentre of education, training, events and competition for our shearers and the community.
"Importantly, the centre will serve as a key pathway for training our future generations of shearers and wool handlers, a vital part of ensuring the ongoing viability of our $54 million wool industry.
"This is a prime example of industry and government working together to move our state forward and deliver for Tasmania.
"I look forward to seeing the Midlands Agricultural Association, training providers, and other organisations come together to leverage further opportunities at the site."
The Tasmanian Government is also providing $200,000 for sheep and wool industry training to deliver 40 Certificate 2 qualifications over the next two years.
