Shelley Foreshore - Fisheries Assault, WA

Kensington Detectives have charged a man in relation to a serious incident that occurred near the Shelley foreshore on Friday, 3 February 2017.

At about 4.15pm, two Department of Fisheries and Marine officers were seated in an unmarked vehicle near the intersection of Riverton Drive East and Fern Road in Shelley. Both officers were in uniform conducting surveillance duties in the Riverton Bridge Park area. , WA Police say

It will be alleged that a broom handle was thrown at the vehicle by a man who then approached the vehicle and challenged them to a fight. The fisheries officers began to move their vehicle to allow a greater distance between the man and their vehicle. The man ran to his vehicle, a red Hyundai Hatchback and drove at the fisheries vehicle causing damage to both vehicles.

The man got out in possession of a hammer and began hitting the fisheries vehicle with it. The Fisheries vehicle was moved again in an attempt to get away from the man, however the man got back into his vehicle and pulled up alongside and began yelling and threw a metal bar at the vehicle.

The fisheries vehicle drove along Riverton Drive East in an attempt to get away from the man, however the man drove alongside them on the wrong side of the road before getting in front of the fisheries vehicle and stopping then reversing towards the fisheries vehicle. After a few minutes, the fisheries vehicle was able to get away from the man.

The series of incidents were reported to Police a short time later.

Kensington Detectives took carriage of the investigation and have charged a 42 year old man of no fixed address with the following offences:

•With Intent to Harm, Omitted to do or did and act which Resulted in Life, Safety or Health being Endangered

•Reckless Driving

•2 x Assault Public Officer

•Damaging Property

•Being the Driver of a Vehicle Involved in an Accident in Which Property was Damaged Failed to Report Accident to Police

•Being the Driver of a Vehicle Involved in an Accident in Which Property was Damaged, Failed to Stop as Required to do so

Anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident, saw the red Hyundai Hatchback or has any other information relating to this matter is asked to call Crime Stoppers.
