The evening event will be held at Shellharbour City Library on Thursday 16 April from 6-7:30pm. It will feature local bioluminescence enthusiast and photographer David Finlay, who will share stories, images and insights into where and when these natural light displays can be found across the region.

From luminous fungi glowing on the forest floor to shimmering plankton lighting up coastal waters, the talk will delve into the science behind bioluminescence and showcase the unique natural phenomena that make the South Coast so special.

Shellharbour Mayor Chris Homer said the talk offered a different way to understand the local environment.

"A lot of people don't realise that bioluminescence occurs right here on the South Coast," said Mayor Homer.

"This event allows the sharing of local knowledge, helping people better understand the natural systems around them."

The talk is part of Shellharbour City Council's ongoing Nature Talk series, designed to inspire curiosity, build environmental awareness and encourage the community to see the local landscape in a new light.

The event is aimed at adults, however children accompanied by an adult are welcome.

Bookings are essential and tickets are free. Visit the Shellharbour City Library website(Opens in a new window) to book.
