Shellharbour City Council is calling on the community to help shape the Community Emissions Reduction Plan (CERP), which will guide local action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the city.

The CERP is a key part of Council's Zero Emissions Shellharbour Strategy, aiming to support the community in reaching net zero emissions by 2050. It builds on Council's existing commitments to achieve net zero emissions in Council operations by 2035.

Shellharbour Mayor Chris Homer said the plan will be shaped in partnership with the community to make sure it reflects local values, needs and ideas for creating a more sustainable Shellharbour.

"We know climate change is a big challenge, but it's one we can tackle together," Mayor Homer said.

"This plan is about working with our neighbours and families to find simple, everyday ways to reduce emissions and protect what makes Shellharbour special. We're asking for your ideas to help build a plan that delivers real results for our community."

The CERP will focus on everyday areas such as transport, energy use, waste, food and the natural environment, and will include actions that individuals, households and businesses can take to make a difference.

Council is encouraging community members to share their experiences, challenges and ideas through a short survey. Have your say by completing the survey and go in the draw to win one of three $200 Visa gift vouchers.
