The Tasmanian Government welcomes this week's visit from a delegation of South Korean fisheries cooperatives. The visit demonstrates our Trade Strategy is working and that Tasmania's world class marine science and innovative fisheries industries are continuing to capture the world's attention.
The delegation has a specific focus on sourcing innovative fisheries equipment and today toured the Experimental Aquaculture Facility (EAF), which was opened in October 2015 as a partnership with Huon Aquaculture, Skretting, the University of Tasmania and the Tasmanian and Australian Governments.
The delegation's visit is a direct result of my Government's 2017 Trade and Investment Mission to South Korea, which showcased Tasmania's world-class aquaculture industry and research and development capabilities.
Tasmania values our relationship with Korea and the exciting trade opportunities. In fact, since 2017, exports to Korea have increased by over 80 per cent from $109 million to $199 million.
The delegation's visit aligns with the Government's Trade Strategy, which is designed to position Tasmania to be globally competitive, help our businesses expand their presence in markets around the world, attract more investment and create more local jobs. This week's visiting delegation, supported by Austrade, is yet another example of my Government working to empower businesses to take their products to the world.
