Murrindindi Shire Council is encouraging community members to listen in to UGFM on Saturdays for a new segment called 'Young Artist of the Month'.

Council is partnering with local radio station UGFM, along with Paul Ray and Students and Turbo 360, to run a feature artist radio segment promoting young aspiring talent in Murrindindi Shire.

Paul Ray is a professional musician and music teacher, residing in Kinglake. Paul is passionate about helping young people in Murrindindi Shire discover and learn music. Paul created the group Paul Ray and Students and volunteers his time to support local initiatives for young people, including the Dindi Sessions, community market performances, and Council's summer pool party events. Some of Paul's students have now released professionally-recorded songs, which are featured on national radio stations

James Anderson of Turbo 360, a digital media agency that specialises in video production, is supporting the Young Artist of the Month program by creating a page on the UGFM website which features a profile of each artist, including music, a short bio and photos.

Community Engagement and Wellbeing Portfolio Councillor, Damien Gallagher, said Council is thrilled to help facilitate and promote programs like this that showcase our young local talent and inspire others to get involved.

'The Young Artist of the Month program will provide a wonderful opportunity for talented young musicians to build an audience and fan base, while at the same time helping to promote some of the other great programs available to young people in our Shire.

'It's a challenging time for many right now and initiatives like this are a great way of lifting spirits in our community. This is also a great way to celebrate some of the emerging talent we have right here on our doorstep', said Cr Gallagher.

'The program kicks off at 7.30 am on Saturday 4 September and will continue at the same time on Mike Dalmau's 'Good Morning Murrindindi' program on the first Saturday of the month thereafter. You can find out more information about the Young Artist of Month program here.

'Council's Youth Services team has worked closely with these artists and other young people to explore experiences and pathways within the music industry. If you'd like to find out more information about some of the great programs on offer to young people in our Shire, including free song writing workshops and training and mentoring opportunities, please visit the Dindi Youth Hub
