Showers Hit South, Rest of Nation Stays Settled

BOM
Hello, Miriam at the Bureau with your national weather forecast for tomorrow, Friday the 15th of August. Now, tomorrow's weather map shows us a cold front brushing through South Australia and then sweeping across the south-eastern states. This cold front is going to bring gusty winds, showers, small hail and a lowering snow level to those south-eastern areas from tomorrow, continuing over the weekend. Elsewhere across the country, though, it's a much more settled story. We've got high pressure in the east and high pressure pushing back across the west as well. So those areas may see some morning fog and frosts, but generally dry and sunny days following. Let's take a state by state look at tomorrow's forecast now, starting with Queensland.

Now for Queensland tomorrow, we may see some morning fogs across those south-eastern parts of the state, as well as some a little bit further north about the east coast there. Generally dry and sunny daytime conditions will follow, although we may see a few isolated showers about the south-east coast early in the day, but they will be on an easing trend. For Brisbane tomorrow, we are expecting a partly cloudy top of 22 degrees.

In New South Wales tomorrow, morning fogs and possible frost across those eastern areas. It will be a mostly sunny start but cloud will be building through the day with showers developing through those southern parts of the state. Generally, low rainfall totals are expected up to midnight tomorrow night, but we may see some of that shower activity pushing through across the weekend as well. We're likely to see a few coastal showers remaining, mainly about the Central and Northern coasts, but the rainfall totals are likely to be low. For Sydney tomorrow, it will be a partly cloudy top of 19 degrees. Down in Canberra, a partly cloudy top of 15 degrees.

In Victoria, cloud building across the state with fairly windy conditions in the morning. Mainly about the elevated areas and the exposed coasts. Now that cloud and those winds are coming in ahead of this cold front, which is likely to bring showers across the state during the day. Rainfall totals will generally be low to moderate, but we may see some showers of small hail across southern parts of the state through the afternoon, as well as a lowering snow level later in the day. For Melbourne, we are expecting to see showers increasing tomorrow with a top of 15 degrees.

In Tasmania tomorrow, cloud building through the morning. Fairly strong and gusty winds across the state as well, not easing back until later. Showers moving through with that cold front with small hail possible in the wake of that front and a snow level lowering once again. By the end of the day, we may see that snow level dropping as low as around 800m across northern parts of Tasmania, as low as 400 or 500m in the south. Across the day tomorrow, rainfall totals will generally be low, moderate, across the West Coast there. For Hobart, we are expecting showers through the day with a top of 16 degrees.

In South Australia tomorrow, scattered showers across the south-east of the state with some small hail earlier on. As the day goes on, though, that's going to trend back to more isolated showers, which are likely to impact other parts of southern South Australia as well, with fairly cloudy conditions. It will be sunny inland, drier and milder. For Adelaide tomorrow, showers easing with the top of 16 degrees.

In Western Australia tomorrow, the chance of morning fog and frost across the south-west inland areas, then a dry and mostly sunny day. It will be cooler than average, though, in the wake of a cold front, particularly across those southern parts of the state, a little bit milder further north. We are likely to see a few isolated showers about the southern coast, but they're not going to bring too much to our rainfall gauges. For Perth tomorrow, it'll be a sunny day with a top of 17 degrees.

Across the Northern Territory tomorrow, the chance of morning fog across the eastern Arnhem Land, then a generally dry, sunny and settled day following. Winds will be easing back and drier air moving in in the wake of a south-easterly surge we head around the middle of the week. For Darwin tomorrow, it'll be a sunny day and a top of 33 degrees.
