Six drivers have been charged, four licences suspended, and three sets of registration plates confiscated following an investigation into alleged dangerous driving on the Central Coast last week.
At 10.15pm on Wednesday 11 November 2020, officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Highway Patrol attended Newbridge Road, Berkeley Vale, after reports of vehicles conducting burnouts and driving recklessly.
When police arrived, they saw a Toyota Hilux allegedly conducting a burnout. Police spoke to the driver, a 16-year-old boy who held a learner's licence.
The teenager from Lake Munmorah was issued a Traffic Infringement Notice for the offences of learner unaccompanied, operate vehicle so driving wheels undergo sustained loss of traction, and use light vehicle not comply with standard - tyres.
He was also charged with repeatedly operate vehicle contrary subsection, and participate group activity contrary subsection (street racing). The learner driver has had his licence endorsed as suspended till February 2021.
The vehicle was issued a major grounded vehicle defect and the number plates were confiscated for three months.
As police spoke with the teenager, they observed five other vehicles drive away from the location.
Following inquiries, police located and spoke to the five alleged drivers of the vehicles sighted at the scene and the following action was taken;
- A 20-year-old man from Blue Haven was driving a Green Ford Falcon XR6T and was the holder of a P2 licence. He was charged with prolong, sustain loss of traction, participate in group conducting aggravated burnout and not comply P1/P2 high performance vehicle restriction. His licence was suspended.
- A 17-year-old male from Summerland Point, driving a Holden VS Ute, was charged with prolong, sustain loss of traction, participate in group conducting aggravated burnout and drive motor vehicle contrary to minor defect notice. His licence was suspended, and number plates confiscated for three months.
- A 19-year-old man from Kincumber, driving a Holden VE utility with a P2 licence, was charged with prolong, sustain loss of traction and participate in group conducting aggravated burnout. His licence was also suspended, and number plates confiscated for three months.
- A 24-year-old man from Lake Munmorah, driving a Nissan Skyline, was charged with drive on nature strip and view activity conducting aggravated burnout.
- A 22-year-old woman from The Entrance, driving a Holden Commodore VZ, was charged with drive on nature strip and view activity conducting aggravated burnout
All six drivers are due to appear before Wyong Local Court on Monday 11 January 2021.
