A key park in one of the Toowoomba Region's rural towns will soon be home to a new area which will provide dog owners a formal place to train and exercise their animals.

At this week's Ordinary Meeting of Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC), Councillors unanimously supported a recommendation to turn a section of Skelly Recreation Reserve at Crows Nest into a formal dog off leash area.

TRC Parks and Recreation Services portfolio spokesperson Councillor Tim McMahon said the new area would be a welcome addition to Skelly Recreation Reserve.

"Dog off leash areas are great zones in our parks which allow dog owners to train, exercise and socialise their animals in a formal fenced off area.

"Council consulted with the Crows Nest community and a majority of respondents favoured Skelly Recreation Reserve for the project.

"The dog off leash area will include a total fenced area of approx. 4400 square metres, dog bowls, water bottle filler, waste bin, seating and regulatory signage," Cr McMahon said.

"Funding of $175,000 has been included in our 2025/26 capital works program to deliver the detailed design and construction of the project.

"I look forward to seeing plenty of dog owners in Crows Nest enjoying this area for years to come," he said.
