Camden Council is encouraging local small businesses to seize the opportunities ahead, with a month-long program of workshops, networking, business support and recognition launching this October.
This year's Small Business Month theme is Seizing Opportunity, which fits perfectly into the Camden experience of significant population and industry growth, alongside major investment across Western Sydney including Western Sydney International Airport.
The program has been designed to help local businesses leverage Camden's growth, unlock new ideas, build capability, drive local impact and stay ahead of emerging trends. It includes:
- Building a Business That Can Run Without You on Wednesday 7 October, 6-8pm, at Camden Council's Administration Building. This practical workshop will cover resilience, managing uncertainty, diversification, succession planning and business continuity;
- How to Apply for Business Grants on Monday 12 October, 5.30-6.30pm, online. Attendees will learn how to identify relevant grants, develop a strong business case, prepare budgets and strengthen grant applications;
- Seizing Opportunity: Camden Business Breakfast on Wednesday 21 October, 8-11.30am, at the Camden Civic Centre. Delivered in partnership with Western Sydney Business Connection, tickets for the breakfast are $15 each. The event will feature networking, local business success stories, a panel discussion, economic insights and connections to business support services; and
- Build Your Brand in Canva on Thursday 29 October, 6.15-8.30pm, at the Camden Civic Centre. The hands-on workshop will help businesses develop a consistent visual identity and create their own brand style guide and marketing templates in Canva.
Throughout October, Council will also showcase 10 local businesses through the I AM CAMDEN Small Business social media campaign, recognising businesses demonstrating outstanding delivery against criteria aligned with this year's Small Business Month theme.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said Small Business Month was an opportunity to celebrate the important role local businesses play in our community.
"Camden is a place of enormous growth and opportunity and our small businesses are right at the heart of that story," Cr Fedeli said.
"This year's program is about helping our local business community seize the opportunities that come with that growth while recognising their successes along the way.
"We want to encourage our local business owners to get involved and continue playing their vital role in supporting our community and local economy."
Council has also invited businesses, organisations, industry groups and community organisations to contribute eligible events and activities to the broader Small Business Month program, with selected activities promoted through Council's website and online communication channels.
