Smart Cities Week comes to Boroondara

We recently had the honour of taking part in the annual Australia and New Zealand Smart Cities Week.

The Smart Cities event hosted more than 300 delegates and technology industry leaders at Swinburne University of Technology. During the week, people come together to exchange ideas around technology, infrastructure and accessibility.

We have a long-standing partnership with Swinburne University, which has resulted in projects such as our 'Innovation Spine'. This project provides a trial ground to explore a range of initiatives such as:

  • urban greening
  • sustainable transport
  • arts
  • events
  • smart technology
  • recreation
  • revitalised laneways.

As part of Smart Cities, we were able to give a guided tour of the 'Innovation Spine' to attendees.

When it comes to Smart Cities, the opportunities are endless.

An Innovation Specialist from City of Boroondara was invited to join a panel discussion alongside representatives from 6 other Australian Councils where the resounding agreement was that to create a Smart City, collaboration amongst Councils is key.

We are currently working with other local Councils to explore and trial various Smart City concepts. By exploring opportunities as part of an alliance we have the ability to share findings and learn from our neighbouring Councils' experiences to help drive future decision making.
