Shellharbour City Council has resolved to place the draft Shellharbour Parking Strategy on public exhibition, giving the community an opportunity to review Council's long‑term approach to improving parking across the City's town centres.
The Strategy provides a high‑level framework aimed at making parking simpler, safer, and easier to navigate as Shellharbour continues to grow. It focuses on improving the way existing parking is managed rather than introducing paid parking, ensuring that parking in Shellharbour's town centres continues to remain free.

The draft plan proposes the introduction and refinement of timed parking in key locations to increase turnover and support local businesses, while also looking at ways to enhance mobility parking so that those who need closer, more accessible spaces can find them easily.
It also outlines proposed improvements to signage and wayfinding to help people locate parking more quickly, reducing congestion and creating a safer, more intuitive experience for residents and visitors.
These priorities are informed by extensive community feedback through the Tell Us About Parking(Opens in a new window) Let's Chat page, which highlighted strong support for clearer parking arrangements, better access near shops and services, and improved safety around busy kerbside areas.
Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer said the Strategy is about improving parking for the whole community.
"The Strategy aims to strike the right balance between meeting current demand, preparing for future needs and ensuring parking remains fair, free and accessible across Shellharbour's town centres," Mayor Homer said.
The community can view the draft Strategy and provide feedback by visiting Council's website(Opens in a new window).
