More local streets will be resurfaced as part of Council's ongoing road renewal program, improving safety and responding to one of our community's top priorities.
Works have recently been completed in Ludstone Street, Hampton, with crews now moving to Sunlight Crescent in Brighton East, Highett Road in Highett, Charming Street and Keiller Street in Hampton East, and Osborne Close in Brighton. These works are expected to be completed by the end of June.
Council maintains more than 370 kilometres of roads across Bayside to keep local streets safe, durable and comfortable for everyday travel.
Proactive resurfacing helps address wear and tear before it leads to potholes or more costly repairs. The process involves removing the worn top layer of road and laying new asphalt for a smoother, longer lasting surface.
While resurfacing delivers long-term benefits, there may be short-term disruption during works, including changed traffic conditions, reduced on-street parking and brief road closures while asphalt is laid and sets. Residents may also notice a strong smell, which is a normal part of the process and usually fades quickly as the asphalt cools.
In busy areas, including near schools, traffic may be heavier during peak times. We plan works to minimise disruption where possible, although timing can be affected by factors outside Council's control, including coordination with other infrastructure works.
Residents are encouraged to report road problems, including potholes, damaged surfaces or other safety concerns to help Council respond quickly and keep local roads in good condition. If you spot a road issue, please report it online.
