- 2026 Graduate Teacher Career Evening promotes teaching career opportunities in WA public schools across metropolitan, regional and remote areas
- Attendees are invited to connect with experienced school leaders and Department of Education staff
- Workshops to assist job application writing, understanding recruitment processes, graduate induction and other support is available
Education Minister Sabine Winton is bringing together Western Australia's future teachers tonight for the 2026 Graduate Teacher Career Evening.
A record number of recent graduates and pre-service teachers in the final year of their teaching qualification have registered to attend the popular annual event held at the Department of Education in East Perth.
More than 160 attendees will have the opportunity to connect with school leaders and Department of Education staff to learn about employment opportunities, graduate induction programs, and the range of professional and wellbeing supports available to early career teachers.
Thirty public schools from across Western Australia will be on showcase and represent the incredible career opportunities for educators, including in regional and remote areas.
There is also a unique opportunity to see and experience regional schools with virtual reality headsets, with attendees able to explore the school environment, classrooms and local area of Hedland Senior High School, Derby District High School, WA College of Agriculture - Cunderdin, and Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School.
The event forms part of the Cook Labor Government's broader commitment to attracting and retaining a strong teaching workforce across Western Australia.
Other practical initiatives include expanding the number of complex behaviour support coordinators to 192 WA public schools and providing targeted literacy and numeracy support for students through the Small Group Tuition Initiative to help reduce complexity and workload for classroom teachers.
The Cook Labor Government is also continuing measures to attract and retain teachers and school leaders in regional and remote schools.
As stated by Education Minister Sabine Winton:
"WA's teachers and school leaders are our most valuable assets in providing the next generation with a quality education.
"As a former teacher of 27 years, I know how rewarding a career in education can be, and I am thrilled to see so many aspiring teachers finishing up their qualifications.
"Through this event, we are helping graduate teachers build connections with the profession and better understand the support available to them as they transition into their careers.
"Not only does it showcase the exciting opportunities available in our public schools across the State, but it also provides the opportunity to seek advice and speak directly with the experienced school leaders and education staff on the ground."
