The fryer has cooled. The votes have been cast. The judges have spoken.

Fisheries Minister Mark Furner announced the Queensland winner for the Judge’s Choice at the Australian Fish and Chip Awards 2018 is Fish & Chip Co at Wynnum.

Minister Furner congratulated the winners at the Queensland Seafood Industry Awards last night, hosted by the Queensland Seafood Marketers Association (QSMA) and commonly known as the ‘Seafood Industry Oscars.’

“My congratulations go to Fish & Chip Co – a great local fish and chip shop in Brisbane’s Bayside.”

“I also congratulate Fresh Coral Seafoods at Mudgeeraba for winning the People’s Choice Award, and all other winners and finalists for this year’s Queensland Seafood Industry Awards.”

“These awards recognise the hard work of our local seafood businesses and the great product that they provide for Queenslanders.

“It is vital that Queensland’s seafood industry remains viable into the future and these awards demonstrate our produce is world-class.

“The Palaszczuk Government has made moves to protect the future of the industry by cracking down on black marketing and improving the sustainability of fish stocks.”

State Member for Lytton Joan Pease congratulated Fish & Chip Co on their win.

“It’s great to see a local small business like Fish & Chip Co making their mark on a statewide scale.” Ms Pease said.

“This win entrenches the Bayside’s iconic status for tourists and seafood lovers.

“I encourage fellow Baysiders to get in and sample some delicious Queensland seafood.”

President of the QSMA, Marshall Betzel said the Queensland Seafood Industry Awards highlighted the industry’s contribution to Queensland.

“Queenslanders love their local seafood and their local seafood industry, from Coolangatta to the Cape.” Mr Betzel said.

“The awards recognise the outstanding contribution that seafood marketers, processors and restaurateurs make to our economy and our state.

“We have some of the product in the world, and we work hard across the industry to make it accessible for Queenslanders.”

The Queensland Seafood Industry Awards also recognised industry contributions to safety, the environment and research and development.
