Softlink Information Centres is delighted to announce that the University of Papua New Guinea's Michael Somare Library has chosen the Liberty library management system.
Liberty best met their requirement for a stable, functionally rich, and customisable library management system. With the university's medical library already using Liberty, the library systems across the campuses will now be standardised.
The ultimate goal of the Michael Somare Library staff is to increase student and teaching staff engagement with the library and they believe the implementation of Liberty will do just that.
Benzamine Chee, Acquisitions Librarian, at the University of Papua New Guinea said,
"The staff at the Michael Somare Library are thrilled that UPNG has chosen Liberty. We are excited that our students will now have the opportunity to engage with the library by accessing databases and books, journals, and electronic resources all in the one system. Our users are also very excited to make use of Liberty's mobile app, which connects the younger generation to the library and meets their wish for self-help opportunities."

About the University of Papua New Guinea Library
The Papua New Guinea University Library has two units such as "Michael Somare Library at Waigani campus and the Medical School Library at the Taurama Campus Library". They provide information resources in various disciplines i.e. "Law, Business Management, Physical and Natural Sciences, Medical and Health Sciences, Humanities and social sciences".
The library holds 214,342 book titles in print. There is a total of 14,300 electronic journal titles that are accessible through the following databases, "Hinari - for biomedical and health science journals; Oare- for Environmental science journals; and Agora - for Food and Agricultural journals".
