South Australia coronovirus update as at 8 April 2020

Five people have today tested positive for COVID-19. There have now been a total of 420 cases in

South Australia.

Today's cases range in age from people in their 20s through to people in their 50s.

To date, 120 people have been confirmed cleared of COVID-19.

Sadly, a 62-year-old woman from metropolitan Adelaide passed away this morning from COVID-19 in the Royal Adelaide Hospital. The woman was a passenger on the Ruby Princess cruise ship.

Her passing is the second death in SA from COVID-19.

There are 86 cases in SA linked to the Ruby Princess cruise ship, which is the biggest cluster in cases. Eighty of these cases are considered primary cases of COVID-19 and were passengers on the Ruby Princess and six are considered to be secondary cases.

Seven people aged between 52 and 77-years-old are currently in intensive care at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, of which five are in a critical condition and two are stable.

Investigations are ongoing into the cluster of cases identified at Adelaide Airport, with four additional cases identified since yesterday, bringing the total number to of cases to 33.

Anyone who is sick with symptoms of COVID-19 and has been at the Adelaide Airport, including in the terminal or car park, since Tuesday 17 March should present for testing.

SA Pathology has undertaken more than 35,000 tests for COVID-19 so far.
