South Fremantle Extortion and Criminal Damage Investigation, WA


Major Fraud Squad detectives are seeking information in relation to an incident at a restaurant in South Fremantle on Saturday, 1 October 2016, WA Police say.

About 2:15pm police were called to the South Terrace restaurant after multiple calls regarding two people involved in an incident in which a number of glass display cabinets and fridge doors were smashed with a hammer. The offenders had their faces covered and left the scene.

Police officers attended the restaurant and it was established the business owner had been receiving ongoing threats that he and his staff would be assaulted if he did not handover money on a regular basis. While police were at the scene the person in question entered the restaurant and was immediately taken into custody.

Police charged a 25 year old man from Jandakot with Demanding Property by Oral Threats. He was refused bail and appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court on Sunday 2 October 2016. He is next due to appear in the Fremantle Magistrate Court on Tuesday 18 October 2016.

Detective First Class Constable Lorena CRUZ PARKER from the Major Fraud Squad said members of the public may have information that could help identify the second person involved.

"We are continuing our inquiries to identify the second person involved. I ask anyone who was in the area at the time, and who saw the incident take place, to come forward and make contact via Crime Stoppers. We would also like to speak to anyone who has information regarding the identity of the people involved.

Anyone with information regarding this matter, or who recognises the people pictured, is asked to call Crime Stoppers.
