South-West businesses invited to help transform Bunbury Waterfront

  • New South-West business register to put local business front-and-centre of Transforming Bunbury's Waterfront Stage Two works
  • Tender for Bunbury foreshore transformation to be released in the coming weeks
  • New contractor for multi-million-dollar project will be encouraged to use local businesses and workers
  • The McGowan Government has established a South-West business register ahead of the release of the Bunbury Waterfront Stage Two development tender to allow local businesses to register their interest in working on the multi-million-dollar project.

    A tender for the multi-million-dollar landscaping and site redevelopment works will be released in coming weeks.

    The register of South-West businesses will be provided to prospective lead contractors to fast-track the engagement of local workers and material suppliers.

    The foreshore work involves comprehensive landscaping and site works within Casuarina Harbour and along Casuarina Drive including:

    • upgraded playground facilities and new shade sails;
    • barbecue and picnic shelters;
    • beach showers and grassed areas;
    • improved lighting and security;
    • terraced steps and amphitheatre seating;
    • upgraded beach promenade pathways for pedestrians and cyclists; and
    • improved beach access paths to connect restaurants and businesses.

    The Landscape Concept Plan was developed in consultation with local residents and will see new median and verge planting along Casuarina Drive and the maintenance of existing mature trees.

    Transforming Bunbury's Waterfront project is being delivered by the South West Development Commission, in partnership with DevelopmentWA, the City of Bunbury and the Department of Transport, under the guidance of the Bunbury Development Committee.

    The Stage 2 landscaping and site works are expected to commence in July 2020. Small businesses can register online at http://www.swdc.wa.gov.au/information-centre/transforming-bunbury's-waterfront---expression-of-interest.aspx

    As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

    "Transforming Bunbury's Waterfront has an outstanding track record of creating work opportunities for local businesses and residents - from the Koombana Foreshore revitalisation to the Dolphin Discovery Centre redevelopment and Jetty Road causeway upgrade.

    "This project will be a much-needed boost for local business and we encourage South-West businesses to register to be part of this next stage of works.

    "The business register, part of our Government's commitment to local content, will support local jobs for local people and financial stimulus for the South-West as we continue to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic."

    As stated by Bunbury MLA Don Punch:

    "This is an exciting opportunity for South-West businesses to be involved in a project which is transforming the Bunbury waterfront into a highly valued community space which will be used by generations to come.

    "The McGowan Government is committed to ensuring local people benefit directly from the multi-million dollar investments we are making in regional communities.

    "Throughout this project we have put local jobs first and we are determined to ensure workers across the South-West region have the opportunity to be engaged by the successful contractor."
