Two University of Southampton educators have been awarded National Teaching Fellowships in recognition of the outstanding impact they've had on higher education.

Economics lecturer Dr Stefania Paredes Fuentes and Professor Bryony Whitmarsh , from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, have both received the honour from Advance HE.

The National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS) celebrates and recognises individuals who have made an outstanding impact on student outcomes and the teaching profession in UK higher education.

Dr Paredes Fuentes said: "I am honoured to receive this award which recognises the value of investing in evidence-informed economics education.

"It reflects a personal and collective journey driven by the belief that economics can, and must, be more inclusive and relevant to the world our students will contribute to shape in the future.

"I hope this recognition inspires others to challenge traditional boundaries and keep reimagining what economics education can be."

Professor Whitmarsh added: "I'm honoured to have been awarded a National Teaching Fellowship in recognition of my work in internationalisation, which promotes social responsibility and social justice.

"This work is deeply important to me, as it has helped reduce barriers to participation for underrepresented groups and fostered greater intercultural understanding.

"This recognition reflects work that has been co-produced with students and colleagues in Southampton and beyond, and I am deeply grateful for their knowledge, collaboration, and accountability which have been central to making my work impactful."

The University of Southampton celebrated an increase in student satisfaction this year when student-led improvements placed the university among the top 10 Russell Group universities in this year's National Student Survey results .
