Sparks Fly As Stolen Ute Driven To Northern Suburbs

A man was arrested overnight after he was caught driving a stolen ute on only three wheels.

At 11pm Saturday 21 March, police were alerted to a Ford ute travelling south at high speeds on Port Wakefield Highway at Dublin, missing its front left tyre.

Checks on the registration revealed the ute had been stolen from Balaklava at around 6pm earlier the same evening.

Multiple police patrols were deployed to the area, while members of the public provided real-time updates to police as the vehicle continued south towards the northern suburbs.

As the stolen ute reached Waterloo Corner, it was captured on traffic management cameras and sighted by patrols, who began to discreetly track the vehicle as it turned onto Kings Road at Paralowie.

Still being driven on its front left rim, the ute entered the car park of a shopping centre on Spains Road, Salisbury Downs, where it came to a stop and the driver was swiftly arrested.

During the arrest, officers discovered two Jack Russell dogs in the car who were unfazed by the incident and collected by the local council for safekeeping.

The 45-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle and driving whilst unlicensed. He was also charged with breaching reporting obligations after he allegedly failed to comply with directions in accordance with the Child Sex Offenders Registration Act.

He was refused police bail and is due to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday 23 March.

The stolen Ford was towed from the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the vehicle during this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or free call 1800 333 000.
