Special Rep Urges Devotion to Religious Freedom, Belief

CoE/Special Representative on antisemitic, anti-Muslim and other forms of religious intolerance and hate crimes

Defending the right to religion and belief is a duty we must stand by, said Alexandre Guessel, Special Representative on antisemitic, anti-Muslim and other forms of religious intolerance and hate crimes.

Marking the international day commemorating victims of violence based on religion or belief, the Special Representative stressed the importance of defending that freedom.

"Freedom of thought, conscience and religion is a human right enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights. It is our duty to uphold it and to stand by those who need protection. Respect and solidarity are part of our common European values."
