South Australian Police conducted Operation Safe Speed, which focused on a state wide speed operation.
Police detected 513 offences between 12.01am on Thursday 27 October and 11.59pm hours on Sunday 30 October 2022, compared to 521 when the operation was last run in May. Although this is a slight decrease, South Australian Police are still frustrated that people aren't adhering to the speed limit.
During the operation 512 expiations were issued across the state and 1 driver was reported and issued an instant loss of licence for a speeding offence.
Superintendent Bob Gray, Officer in Charge Traffic Services Branch said "the detections over the weekend still shows that the message is not getting through to people and these operations need to continue to occur".
"Whilst we didn't lose a life over this period, this year speeding is the main contributing factor to people dying on the roads. I make no apologies to the public for running these operations" Supt Gray said.
"These operations reinforce the need for traffic operations such as this and we will continue to take a zero tolerance approach to people who want to push the limits and place innocent road users at risk."
