A man has been charged and a second is in a critical condition following an alleged hit and run in Richmond overnight.
About 12.35am (Wednesday 9 September 2026), police were called to a home on Faithfull Street, Richmond, after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a car.
Officers attached to Hawkesbury Police Area Command attended and found that the 38-year-old man had allegedly been hit by a Hyundai SUV before it drove from the scene.
The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
Police established a crime scene and officers attached to Hawkesbury Police Area Command and Crash Investigation Unit commenced inquiries into the incident.
As part of the inquiries, police were told both the driver of the Hyundai – a 27-year-old man – and the 38-year-old had driven to the Faithfull Street address where the older man allegedly told the occupants of the home, he was a NSW Police officer.
After speaking with the residents, the man allegedly assaulted one of the occupants – a 16-year-old boy – before the 27-year-old attempted to reverse from the scene.
While attempting to reverse the driver allegedly ran over the 38-year-old before leaving the scene in the car.
Following inquiries, police located the driver of the Hyundai – a 27-year-old man – a short time later on Francis Street.
The man was subjected to roadside breath test which allegedly returned a positive result, and he was taken to Windsor Police Station where he was charged with:
- Dangerous driving occasion grievous bodily harm - drive under the influence
- Dangerous driving occasion grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous
- Fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm
- Cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle
- Negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm)
- Fail to stop and assist after impact cause injury
- Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
- Drive with middle range PCA
- Learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester
- Learner driver not display "L" plates as prescribed
He was refused bail to appear before Penrith Local Court today.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
