Speeding motorcyclist caught riding stolen bike

State Highway Patrol officers have arrested a speeding motorcyclist after he was caught riding an allegedly stolen motorbike in Glen Waverley last night.

The highway patrol members were patrolling the Monash Freeway when they observed a black Yamaha motorbike allegedly travelling at 100km/h in an 80km zone about 8.15pm.

Police attempted to intercept the rider who then allegedly dropped the bike near the Blackburn Road off-ramp and fled on foot.

Police quickly arrested the man and subsequently located what is believed to be methylamphetamine in his possession.

Further checks on the bike revealed it was stolen from Southbank on Wednesday.

The 39-year-old man was transported to a police station where he was later charged with theft of motor vehicle, handle stolen goods, possessing the proceeds of crime, drug possession, driving whilst disqualified, drug driving and exceeding the speed limit.

The Noble Park man was bailed to appear before Ringwood Magistrates' Court on 12 August.
