New sporting amenities blocks at the Goulburn Regional Hockey Complex and North Park will be reviewed with architects, after tender offers for the Hockey Complex amenities upgrade came in well over budget.
Goulburn Mulwaree Council unanimously resolved to decline tenders from all respondents for the hockey complex amenities and to review the scope and budget for both of these projects, with the objective of reducing the capital costs to make the projects feasible.
This work will be done in conjunction with the project architects, but also with Goulburn District Hockey Association and Goulburn Junior Rugby League to ensure the facilities are still able to cater for the sports.
"We had a number of tenders submitted for the Hockey Amenities block which shows the competition is there, but unfortunately we have no control over market forces and the prices submitted were above our budgeted funds for the project" said Mayor Peter Walker.
"Our priority is still to provide great facilities for our community, but we need to ensure the organisation remains financially sustainable, which is why we will now go back to the drawing board in consultation with all parties to look at some reductions and changes to reduce cost."
Following this work a further report will be put to Council in the coming months, prior to fresh tenders being called for the project.
The current scope for the amenities at Goulburn Regional Hockey Complex includes four new change rooms with toilets and showers, referee's male and female changing facilities, a hockey shop, meeting room and storage areas adjacent to the refurbished hockey field.
