Spotlight shines on Kingaroy State High School

Education Minister Grace Grace has officially opened a $4.95 million multi-purpose hall at Kingaroy State High School.

Ms Grace today represented Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk in officially opening the centre and joining in celebrations for 100 years of secondary schooling in Kingaroy.

“This wonderful building will add a new dimension to performing arts at the school with a capacity for 1,250 people. But, it will also provide a space for outside organisations to hold functions,” Ms Grace said.

“The hall includes a foyer and covered entry, a combined auditorium and multi-purpose court, a stage, change rooms and amenities, an audio-visual control room, a data room, storage room, kitchen/kiosk, an office, a multi-purpose classroom and cleaners’ storeroom.

“Quality infrastructure is vital for our student’s education, which is why I’m proud to be a part of the Palaszczuk Government that delivers on this need.

“I’d also like to congratulate Kingaroy State High School P&C for raising $350,000 for retractable seats, specialised lighting and audio-visual equipment.”

Kingaroy State High School Principal Ashley Roediger said the additional space was welcomed by all.

“Our students and staff are all very excited to be using this state-of-the-art facility, with our bands, choirs and dancers now able to practice routines for events such as Creative Generation and Fanfare,” Mr Roediger said.

“The centre will also be a great venue to hold larger assemblies and events which were previously hosted in the school sports centre or the local hall.”

Hundreds of community members, past students, teachers and other guests united at the school to mark the 100-year milestone.

The school alumni include sports stars such as cricketers Matthew Hayden, Carl Rackemann and Holly Ferling, Olympic medallist swimmer Robyn Thorn, rugby league international Dave Brown, Her Honour Judge Nicole Kefford and Russell Bauer, Director of the New England Conservatorium of Music.
