Spring into City Street Eats tomorrow night

Spring isn't the only thing that's sprung-up this week, with City Street Eats setting up along Flinders St to herald in the new season.

The spring-themed event will bring the best of Townsville's food and drinks into the city centre for thousands of revellers to enjoy tomorrow while the North Queensland Cowboys take on the Manly Sea Eagles at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

Flinders Street will be closed from Denham St to Stanley St from midday tomorrow until after Cotters Markets on Sunday.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson and divisional councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said the city's Eats events, hosted in partnership with PUFT Events, were always well-attended.

"City Street Eats earlier this year had about 7500 attend, which is a huge turnout, and we're hoping for a similar-sized crowd at this week's event," Cr Greaney said.

"This is not only a way for us to bring the community together to grab a bite to eat and socialise, but it's also a way to provide a boost to local businesses in the area.

"Hospitality businesses are what bring our city centre alive at night. We're proud to be able to activate the Townsville CBD and to encourage more people to walk into our local pubs and restaurants."

Cr Greaney said visitors to the event could expect more than just a quick dinner.

"This month's Tomorrow's City Street Eats will have a stellar line-up of live acts to enjoy," she said.

"There will be musicians on the main stage, along with roving entertainment and kids' amusements along Flinders St."
