We are happy to announce that Marit Gjermshus has joined the Global Health Politics research group at the Centre for Development and the Environment (SUM) this month, as the recipient of a year-long masters stipend on the politics of pandemics.

Marit is currently studying for a Masters in Development, Environment & Cultural Change here at the Center for Development and the Environment, UiO. Prior to that, she took a Bachelors in International Studies at UiO, specializing in political science.
Marit is particularly interested in analysing international power dynamics and they ways in which they exacerbate injustice and inequality globally.
Her thesis will focus on Norway's position with regards the proposed TRIPS waiver during the Covid-19 pandemic, and what factors impacted Norway's initial, and later, stances.
Her research findings will supplement the PANPREP project, led by Associate Professor Katerini Storeng. Alongside her independent research, Marit will be participating in relevant pandemic project meetings with senior researchers at SUM.
Marit has a BA in International Studies, and in her spare time she is a keen photographer. She says, 'I am excited to begin working alongside the team in the Global Health Politics research group, and to learn from them on my path to better understand the intricacies of international power imbalances'.
