- More than 7,000 WA Police Force officers to receive advanced pay rise
- Increases ranging from 3 to 5.3 percent per annum, backdated to 1 July 2022
- Additional $3,000 one-off cost of living payment will be paid in the coming weeks
- State Government continues to work with police officers to conclude an agreement
The State Government will pay more than 7,000 police officers their wage increase, while negotiations to conclude their industrial agreement continue.
In recognition of the outstanding job done to protect and serve the Western Australian community - and to avoid police officers having to wait longer for a pay increase - the State Government will provide workers an increase in accordance with the State Wages Policy.
Members of the WA Police Force will receive a wage increase ranging from 3 to 5.3 percent, with back pay from 1 July 2022 and a one-off $3,000 cost of living payment (on a pro-rata basis for casual and part-time employees).
For a police officer at constable rank, this represents a base salary increase of between 3.7 to 4 percent. Further, new police recruits will receive an increase of 5.3 percent. The $3,000 cost of living payment will be included on top of this. They will also receive an additional 0.5 percent per annum increase in superannuation for two years.
This increase is in line with the State Wages Policy - a minimum $3,130 increase or 3 percent - which has already been accepted by 112,000 other public sector employees, equating to three quarters of the sector.
The State Government is committed to resolving industrial agreement negotiations with the WA Police Union. The administrative pay rise will form part of the final agreement.
As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:
"Our decision to pay our police officers the increase administratively ahead of concluding an agreement is in recognition of the hard work and the service our police officers provide to our community.
"WA police officers do incredibly important work on our frontline - and behind the scenes - to curb crime and keep our community safe, which is something the WA public expects to continue.
"The fast-tracked pay rise acknowledges the efforts our police officers as they uphold their commitment to protect and serve the community, and this avoids them waiting any longer as an agreement is sought with the WA Police Union."
As stated by Industrial Relations Minister Bill Johnston:
"Our police do an exceptional job in difficult circumstances and deserve this pay rise, which is why the McGowan Government has decided to back pay police to 1 July 2022 - when their last agreement expired - in addition to providing the $3,000 cost of living payment.
"Resolving industrial agreement negotiations with police officers and their Union continues to be a priority for the Government."
