Our green wedge is much loved by those who live, work and play in the Shire.
It's known for its unique environment and natural beauty, rural living and agriculture, recreation and visitor experiences.
The Victorian Government is seeking community feedback on stronger planning controls to permanently protect Melbourne's green wedges and agricultural land.
Consultation is now open on 'Planning for Melbourne's Green Wedges and Agricultural Land'. The consultation paper outlines planning reforms to prevent overdevelopment and ensure uses consistent with Green Wedge values are supported.
Anyone who lives, works or visits the green wedge can comment on the various planning reform options, providing feedback directly to the State Government at its Engage Victoria website: engage.vic.gov.au/gwal
You can have your say by:
• Attending an online community information session
• Commenting on a feedback map
• Making a submission.
Community consultation runs for 10 weeks and closes on 5 February 2021.
Mayor Peter Perkins encouraged residents to provide their feedback to the Victorian Government.
"We are known as the Green Wedge Shire, and this iconic area has a special place in the hearts of our residents. I urge those who want to protect and enhance our green wedge to have their say," Cr Perkins said.
The Victorian Government has consulted with councils and other stakeholders. Council prepared its own submission on the paper, which was endorsed by the previous Council on 15 September.
Council was required to keep the submission confidential until the beginning of the public consultation period, and it has now been lodged with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.
