A mix of disability accommodation and social housing has received a new lease on life thanks to the completion of refurbishments to 18 properties for tenants.

Thanks to a $2.4 million grant from the Cook Government, Rocky Bay was able to upgrade the properties to improve accessibility, liveability, and to extend their lifespan.

Works included the widening of doorframes, replacing light and power switches with accessible ones, and adjusting cabinetry and storage in the bathroom and kitchen so they are accessible for tenants.

Rocky Bay is a disability support and health services provider in Western Australia.

Services range from Allied Health therapies, specialty respite services, supported accommodation, community access, and personal supports for individuals living with disabilities.

The refurbishments are part of the Cook Government's record $6.3 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures since 2021, including the delivery of more social, affordable, and disability housing.

As stated by Housing and Works Minister John Carey:

"Our government is committed to accelerating the supply of new housing for Western Australians, and we're also focussed on ensuring existing stock remains fit for purpose for longer.

"This $2.4 million grant from the State Government will ensure tenants have a refreshed and accessible place to call home.

"It's part of our record $6.3 billion housing and homelessness spend since 2021, delivering essential maintenance, upgrades, and new homes across WA."

As stated by Disability Services Minister Hannah Beazley:

"The Cook Labor Government is working to ensure tenants with disability who require specialised accommodation have access to appropriate and secure housing.

"Western Australians with disability deserve dignity with housing that meets their needs and enables participation in the community.

"This grant to Rocky Bay is an example of how we're helping organisations deliver more homes and making existing homes more accessible."

As stated by Rockingham MLA Magenta Marshall:

"Our government backs organisations like Rocky Bay to provide secure housing and essential services to people with disability in the community.

"This $2.4 million investment has delivered a range of upgrades for disability and social housing tenants in Rockingham, and has made these properties more accessible for tenants."
