Sally McManus and Michele O'Neil have left a formidable legacy in delivering for working Australians and I thank them for their exceptional leadership of the ACTU.
Through a combined 17 years of action as Secretary and President, McManus and O'Neil were trailblazers who made daily life better for millions of Australians.
During their tenure, McManus and O'Neil worked with the Albanese Government to help shape significant and positive changes for workers including:
- Wage theft and industrial manslaughter becoming a crime
- Thousands of labour hire workers receiving higher pay from Same Job Same Pay laws
- Gig workers having access to world leading minimum standards and protections
- Penalty and overtime rates protected in law
- All workers having access to Paid Family and Domestic Violence Leave including casuals
- Workers having a right to disconnect.
As Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations it has been an immense privilege to work with Sally and Michele and I wish them well on their next endeavours.
